Hello, saucers
Lately, I've been looking for a good web host. Unfortunatelly, almost all host I've come across have either:
a) Glowing reviews on obscure sites that look like scams/traps b) Lots of unhappy costumers with spine-chilling horror stories
So, I'm trying to get opinions from slightly more reliable sources (i.e. you). Do you know/use any nice web hosting services?

if you can afford $20/month i ultimately suggest media temple otherwise, godaddy is also okayish, on the very worst case find a cheapo p3 server and host from home if you trust your connection. the last case works for me, so it's not impossible

I dig eleven2, but a lot of that has to do with being able to get tech support over AIM. And it's not too expensive. But they have been hit by hack attacks a few times since I signed on with them. Less so than dreamhost though.

I wrote this several hours ago, but the forums weren't letting me post at the time (some sort of error kept showing up):
(mt) are the ultimate choice, but require many monies. I'm on Dreamhost, and they're excellent, especially if you use a code(I think I used DH3). I've effectively got 2-year hosting with 4 domains, what might as well be unlimited bandwidth and storage space for most people's purposes (they also increase every month you're a Dreamhost user), S S H access and support for everything from the standard PHP to Ruby to Python for ~£80.
There are going to be horror stories with any host, because nobody has 100% uptime.
Just, uh, pretend that was well-written.
EDIT: Okay, I realised that it wasn't an error. The forums were taking offense, for some reason, at the word "ssh," so I've had to space it out.

I'm interest on Dreamhost. Its US$5,95 plan sounded almost too good to be true - and it was: I'd have to pay 10 years in advance! How could you help me? EDIT: GoDaddy seemed like a good choice, then: http://nodaddy.com/

I'm on Dreamhost, but won't offer to do the referral thingie (no one every puts it in, plus you have offers already). DH has the occasional up/down time issues, but at $15/month, it isn't bad. Plus, I think I'm up to 6 TB/month bandwidth and about ten times the space I need for all of my sites. Plus, they just seem like cool people.

What's the catch? i think that is called promotion and theres no catch. (if i hadnt heard good stories and recommendations about them before i would also be sceptical about such an offer...) just signed up, entered the code and payed via paypal. no surprise here...only the 9.24$. currently trying to setup wordpress blog and stuff. (had already 2 questions and the support responded via email within 30 minutes each time. good service so far

There seems to be a US$50 fee...? There is a per-plan one time setup fee of $49.95 for all shared hosting packages, and if the customer wishes to cancel DreamHost shared Web Hosting services within ninety-seven (97) days of the initial signup they shall be able to do so for any reason (aside from disablement for Terms of Service or Spam Policy violations) and have their money promptly refunded. http://dreamhost.com/tos.htmlDon't mean to be paranoid, it's just that it seems too good to be true!
